Meditation and Storms...

When you walk through a storm,
Hold your head up high,
And don't be afraid of the dark,
At the end of the storm is a golden sky.
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown,
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,And you'll never walk alone.
..
.Oscar Hammerstein, Richard Rogers

Meditation and its benefits enable to us to be prepared for life's storms. The practice allows us to have a conscious contact with our spiritual center. A place deep inside of us, the source of peace and serenity. This inner source brings forth a calm that emanates around us like rays of warm sunshine. Our place of inner calm can be likened to the eye of a hurricane and even in a category 7 storm the eye is always calm. Never mind raincoats and umbrellas...we've got a peaceful easy feeling like singing in the rain! Others need to see that sunshine sparkling in our eyes, they need to hear that soothing melody and they need to feel the warmth of our love for life.

If you'll practice meditation twice a day for fifteen minutes by a simple method of attention to your breath with intentional stillness of your mind and body you'll be amazed at the change in your perspectives. Your mind will be clear from the negative projections that often color our outlook.

Here's a suggested meditation for calming emotions:

1. Sit comfortably in a safe space.
2. Set a timer for 15 minutes.
3. Close your eyes and open your mind.
4. Take 10 natural deep relaxing breaths focusing all of your attention on just how good it feels to breathe.
5. As your attention moves inward - observe the emotions that you are feeling - do not judge them as good or bad...just observe.
6. If your mind wanders to others notions bring your awareness back to the intentional act of breathing in and breathing out.
7. When the timer sounds remember to slowly open your eyes and to stretch your arms and legs before standing.
8. For clarity it helps to keep a journal handy and jot down some of the thoughts and feelings that come to you as a natural result of the intentional practice.

We can not change the world around us but with daily meditation something inside of us begins to change...slowly over time we gain a knowing that life's just a matter of perceptions based on our perspective...we now have the ability to make choices!
