Serenity...

Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm. ~ Anonymous

This evening I taught a group of middle school girls to meditate. I was reminded
that Monks meditate in Time Square in peak traffic hour. That sounds difficult doesn't it? To be still amid that noisy, pedestrian riddled, car horn and smog infested, multi-fragrant air, hustling and bustling square is unfathomable to the average person. But they do it...the monks that is!

In todays meditation eight girls sat in a park for brief moments in time. The intent was still our hearts and minds to improve our ability to focus. Did we accomplish that? Sure we did. We measured it ouselves by the amount of time we sat still and did not respond to friends chatting or rustling leaves, car horns and engines racing by, songs running through our heads, worrying about bugs crawling on our faces. We even sat still while the wind tossed our hair against our faces and our necks! Where we succesful and if so what did we learn?

What we learned it that Serenity is our ability to have peace amid the storms of life!

Peace and grace...
