The Harmonic Soul

“We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls.” Mother Teresa

This is the Harmonic Soul Symbol - it celebrates the common thread of universal love and understanding found in a range of religions and spirituality.

Whether through organized religion, appreciation of nature, meditation or individual thought prayer, we are all connected.

There are many different approaches to this connection. Some people travel down many paths, others just one. Ultimately, at the end of the day, what we all hope to achieve is a profound peace within our hearts.

For me, The Harmonic Soul Spiritual Symbol is a reminder to be open to other options; that there is more than one way; that wholeness is through balance and cooperation; that we are all connected.

The Harmonic Soul Spiritual Symbol, celebrating the universal joy of spirituality, contains these spiritual Symbols: Circle, Star of David, Ankh, Four Directions, Crucifix, Haykal, Khanda, Om, Cresent Moon and Star, Dharmachakra, and Yin Yang.

Some of the religious and spiritual traditions represented include: Judaism, Native American, Christianity, Unity, Bah'ai faith, Sikhism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism.

For me, this symbol encapsulates my journey! It's about harmony in all areas of life. I am not on a religious journey although I borrow practices from various religions. The journey is a spiritual one.

Today, I practiced three different types of meditation...WOW. This morning I began my day with my journey into the valley of my soul. A quiet contemplative meditation. (and I might add, my true favorite!!!) The time allowed me to become centered in body, mind and spirit. I felt enveloped in a womb of universal love.

My next meditative journey was with a wonderful follower of Buddhism. The language and visual imagery of this journey is so enriching! It pings my soul with its beautiful poetry and metaphors. I felt peaceful and full of much compassion.

Next...okay, so I'm a feel good junky! I spent several hours having my current journey affirmed within the Christian faith. A respected leader in the Christian Church referenced scriptures about daily examination and seeking God's Will. The question for this leg of my journey was what do you do to hear God? (or Higher Power in my case....) My mind painted images of the beautiful Goddess of Wisdom- Sophia! Wise, loving, and kind.

During this quiet time, I had an unusual experience. I was sitting in a group where we were instructed to separate our souls! As we sat with our heads bowed...I began to resist. (in my head, I was saying "I don't want to be here...I don't like this way, why did I agree to be here...fidgeting, whining!) A feeling came over me, like my Granny was there smiling at me...I heard her voice, she said, "Little one, you are doing a good job, this is part of the discipline, you belong and you have much to offer...gain wisdom!" I began to cry...tears spilling down my cheeks. (and yes...I peeked to see if anyone could see my tears!!!)

You see, my Granny has been dead for 11 years. She is the only one who took me to church when I was a little girl. I knew when I heard her call me Little One...that it was my higher power speaking to me in the only way I would accept in that moment...through the love of a Grandmother - whose love was unconditional and all encompassing.

God speaks to us in the way that we will understand. Some of us get it in songs, others from friends or family. There are those of us who have direct knowledge of God. There are some who experience God's love in a group and some in solitude. In religion some hear the voice of God and others have to be told God is there. In spirituality we know there is a universal love more powerful than we mere mortals can ever begin to fathom. Whether you believe in the theory of Evolution or Creationism ...if you question and search for meaning, if you help others, if you occasionally have gratitude for the trees and birds, you know...the true journey is about love...love of self and others. Love is the harmony in our souls and we are all connected.

Just for today, I will love freely and unconditionally.
