Creative Meditation....

"The most beautiful and profound experience is the mystical. It is the sower of all true art and science..." Albert Einstein

Creative Meditation is the 5th and final type of meditation in a 5 part series. The previous 4 types we've discussed are: concentration, mindfulness, heart centered and reflective. (The blogs can be accessed from the "previous blogs" drop down box on the right hand side of this page).

As discussed earlier this week, no one type of meditation is necessarily better than the other. They are each equally important in the function they serve dependent upon your individual intentions and desires. My suggestion is to try each of the five types (on separate days) and see which one you think you can stick with for a defined period (preferably six weeks).

What is Creative Meditation?

Creative meditation is about invoking a broader spectrum of possibilities in our lives. It - creativity - comes from a magical place. There is enormous controversy between the scientific community and spiritual communities as to where creativity actually originates. Does it form in the recesses of the mind or is it truly an instantaneous gift of intuitive insight? Magical because no matter where it originates it enlivens us...fills us with hope and joy. Einstein discovered his famous E=MC2 through a process of creative meditation. He envisioned himself traveling on a sunbeam at the speed of light - and in a single moment not only was his life changed forever - but so were the lives of every single one of us. Creative meditation is a powerful tool and please do not say, "I am not very creative." Because you are creative! Do you worry? Can you make plans? Have you ever had a dream? I know you have!! And those are forms of creativity...Creativity is not always visual but rather is open to all doors of perception.

Here is an example of a simple creative meditation to get you started on your meditative journey: Remember to wear comfortable clothing. Find a space that is safe and free from distractions. Set a timer for your desired time. Close your eyes and open your mind. Use the 10 breaths we've discussed previously. (in through the nostrils at 90% and out through your mouth 100%) Do the 3 deep breaths and mentally say to yourself, "relax my mind, relax my body, relax...relax...relax."

IMAGINE yourself standing on a bridge. You may hear sounds or see sights, there may be smells or touches...let this meditation take you where your heart and mind want to go. A really cool thing to do with creative meditation is after you are finished write down as much as you can remember about your experience. If you are having a creative block...read the following questions before you begin this meditation. You do not have to remember them verbatim...just read them and let your imagination take over!

Is the bridge wooden or concrete? Does it have beams and girders or is it suspended? Is there water under your bridge? Heavy flowing water or a beautiful quiet stream? Walk across the bridge and onto the path in front of you. Are in a forest or meadow? Did you come off of the bridge onto a city street? Can you smell the green grass or barren land? Do you feel the ground beneath you or the sun's warmth radiating on your face?
