More than One Root...

When you are a truly happy Christian, you are also a Buddhist. And vice versa." Thich Nhat Hanh

We often speak of roots when referring to a person and their familial history. It refers to their "bloodline", where they are from, what their families did for a living etc. Roots are very important as they have a fundamental grounding effect on us. They do not make us who we are they simply root us our nature. If we were a mighty Oak Tree we would have been dropped as an acorn into the soil. We would have the essence of the land around us.

We can't change the reality that an Oak Tree is. But we can see that an Oak Tree is such because that's the name we have given it. The Oak is made up of many parts, the roots, trunk, bark, branches and leaves. Without water and sunlight it would not flourish and grow. If the tree only had one root it would not be tall and strong enough to sustain high winds or human blows. It takes many roots for the tree to grow.

With more than one spiritual root we can flourish and grow in spirit. It doesn't mean we stop being who we are. It simply means that we can be stronger with more roots.
