Meditation Basics

Peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within ones own soul. ~ Ralph W. Trine

Meditation can be categorized into five types: concentration, mindfulness, heart centered, reflective and creative. Each type has its own value and benefit depending on your motivation. To gain the full benefit of your practice you should spend some time with one type. After practicing one type for about six weeks you should be able to discern whether that particular one is "right" for you or not. The most important aspect of your meditative journey is that it is regular; same time, same place each time you practice. You bring your own faith with you into your practice, meditation just helps your faith to flourish!

Over the next five days I will describe each of the five types and give suggestions as to a way to practice. You can try each one and then choose the type that feels right for your current journey.
