Mindfulness

Kiss the Earth
By Thich Nhat Hanh

Walk and touch peace every moment.
Walk and touch happiness every moment.
Each step brings a fresh breeze.
Each step makes a flower bloom.
Kiss the Earth with your feet.
Bring the Earth your love and happiness.
The Earth will be safe
when we feel safe in ourselves.

Mindfulness is about being present in the moment. Psychological models classify mindfulness as being consciously aware of ones' thoughts, actions and emotions. There are several "models" of therapeutic techniques being applied in the field of psychotherapy to aid those struggling with issues of chronic pain, stress and depression. It is quite simply a technique borrowed from Buddhism!

In Buddhism mindfulness is the path to liberation and enlightenment - it is a technique of meditation! It lends itself to a kind of awareness of ones own self and enhances ones ability to better see reality! When you are in the present moment, you can not be in the past or in the future - but only in now! Through meditation I have begun to practice mindfulness throughout the day. I am not always successful as the human part of my being (my ego) still likes to think that its agenda is in control.

Often, when I am aware that my EGO is trying to take over I have it go sit in a corner somewhere inside of my being. As it, my ego, is diminshed the spiritual aspect of my being can take over and guide me to my higher purpose. This is why I meditate. To live in the middle of the light.

I spent many years of my life struggling to find my center. Through daily meditation I have found many moments of feeling centered.
