If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Wherever you are—if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time...
~ Joseph Campbell
Bliss comes from within, not from striving for outer appearances or outer circumstances. Living your own unique life in harmony with Life puts you on the path to follow your bliss!
Several years ago when I stumbled across this concept of "follow your bliss" - I misunderstood it to mean, "do what makes you happy whether it's selfish or selfcentered". Today, I realize that following one's bliss is not about ego endeavors!
Joseph Campbell coined this phrase after three very sacred Sanskirt terms, sat-chit-ananda, the loose translation of these terms is being, conscious and rapture/bliss, or being conscious to the bliss. Consciousness implies that one has awakened. Being implies just that - here in this present moment.
I'm not sure if I've found my bliss but I have jumped into the stream on a remarkable spiritual journey. Is it blissful? Sometimes. Am I happy? Most of the time. Was it difficult to get here? It most certainly was that's why I spend so much time meditating.
Following your bliss is about setting aside ego and rising above to awaken to the divine. No matter what your religious beliefs you are a spiritual being having a human experience. Meditation allows me to be present in the moment so that I can eradict my ego and awaken my spirit ....this is truly to "follow your bliss".
